Washington Wild Things News Release

Washington, Pa. - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, announced today that they have received outfielder Doug Thennis in the completion of a previous trade with the Laredo Broncos of the United League. The team also announced the signings of outfielder Derek Perren and infielder Steve Vitale.

Thennis comes to the Wild Things to complete a previous trade for Andy Schon. A 2008 draft pick of the Chicago White Sox, Thennis played college baseball at Texas Tech University. He played in the White Sox organization for two years prior to joining the Broncos in 2010. Last season, he batted .283 with 62 hits, 10 homeruns, 39 RBI and 45 runs in 69 games.

"We are thrilled to receive a quality player to complete a trade from last year," said Darin Everson, field manager and director of baseball operations for the Wild Things. "With his years with the White Sox and then last year in Laredo, Doug brings an experienced bat with solid power. We look forward to giving him an opportunity to reach his full potential in 2011."

Perren spent the last two seasons with the Orange County Flyers of the Golden League, batting .348 in 2009 and .288 in 2010. Last year, he played in 82 games with 82 hits, 53 runs and 46 RBI. As a senior at the University of Southern California in 2008, Perren was among the Pac 10 conference leaders in batting average.

"I am very excited to bring Derek into our team for 2011," said Everson. "He brings two successful seasons with him from the Golden League, where he posted a high batting average and on-base percentage. He has an opportunity to be an impact guy for us."

Vitale played at Oklahoma City University in 2009 and 2010, collecting 87 hits, 24 homeruns, 70 runs and 84 RBI to go along with a .387 batting average last season. He also played college baseball at New Mexico Junior College and St. Johns University.

"I look forward to bringing Steve's powerful bat into the mix for 2011," said Everson. "Coming off his 24 homeruns and 84 RBI at Oklahoma City University last year, we are excited about his potential offensively and his ability to move around the infield."

The Wild Things will open their "9 + one" season at CONSOL Energy Park on May 24 against the Traverse City Beach Bums. Season ticket, half-season and mini plan packages are on sale now, and deposits for group tickets are being accepted.
