April 3, 2003 - Frontier League (FL)
Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, PA -- The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, and WJPA Radio 95.3 FM have a broadcast agreement for the baseball team's second season.
WJPA Radio will again be the flagship station, carrying all 90 regular season games, as well as the exhibition games and any post season games for 2003.
"Last year WJPA went into this arrangement with The Washington Wild Things without knowing what exactly we were getting into," said Michael Siegel, President of WJPA. "What eventuated was beyond our expectations. We're pleased to be back on the mound!"
"We're looking forward to our second year with the Wild Things," said Bob Gregg, Operations Director for WJPA. "Last year was an absolute dream, especially for me, being such a huge baseball fan."
Ned Bowdern will anchor the coverage for the second year in a row. Mark Uriah and Gregg will also work most of the home games at Falconi Field.
The WJPA-Wild Things' broadcasts are scheduled to begin on Friday, May 16th when Washington will host Chillicothe here for a two game exhibition series.
"We are happy to have WJPA back on board with us. It's a hometown homerun!" said Ross Vecchio, General Manager of the Wild Things. "They are extremely professional and their signal is fantastic. I was amazed last year when I was traveling on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and I was able to pick up the signal as far away as Somerset."
"We'll announce other radio affiliates sometime within the next few weeks, but we're delighted that WJPA will return as the flagship station," added Vecchio.
WJPA has provided live play-by-play sports coverage in southwestern Pennsylvania for over 60 years, including coverage of high school football basketball, wrestling, baseball, softball, and track and field. In addition, the station is the radio home of the PONY League World Series and Washington and Jefferson College football.
The Wild Things' 2003 regular season play gets underway on May 23rd when Washington travels to Kalamazoo Michigan. The Wild Things open at home on May 28th. Season ticket packages are still available at Falconi Field. Call 724-250-9555 for information.
