April 3, 2003 - Frontier League (FL)
Kalamazoo Kings News Release

The Kalamazoo Kings added four new players to the Spring Training Camp roster this Tuesday at the Frontier League Tryout and Draft at Tigertown in Lakeland, Florida.

In the first round, the Kings selected third baseman Chris Adams. Adams, 6'1", 190, comes from St. Hellens, OR and played for the Evansville Otters in the 2001 season. He hit .271 for the Otters and had only 10 errors in 163 chances. Classified as a 1-year player, Adams will bring Frontier League experience to the Kings.

Matt Westbrook, the Kings second round selection is a 1st baseman/catcher from Coastal Carolina University. This 6'3" 210 lb. right-hander has great hitting power and will be an asset for the Kings, especially at home with a 300' shot to straightaway left field.

In the third round, the Kings selected second baseman Ed Golon with their selection acquired from Chillicothe in 2002. The 5'8" right-hander ran the 60 in 6.7 seconds and will bring speed into the training camp. The Kings also selected left-handed pitcher Dale Nelson from Averett University in the third round. The 6'4" 200 lb. lefty throws 86-88 miles per hour and has a great breaking ball.

The 2003 draft picks will begin their fight for a spot on the Kalamazoo Kings 24 man roster at the spring training camp, which opens on Friday, May 9 at Homer Stryker Field.
