Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, PA--The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, announced the signing of left-handed pitcher Jason Duncan from North Carolina State University Thursday.
The Winston Salem, NC native, who sported a 10-1 career record at NC State over a four year career, split his senior season between the starting rotation and the bullpen. Duncan won his first three starts, including a six strikeout performance against Richmond where he allowed three runs on five hits in five innings.
In 2005 as a junior, he provided solid middle relief and provided a reliable bridge from the Wolfpack's starting rotation to All-American closer Joey Devine (now with the Atlanta Braves). He allowed just two earned runs in 35 2/3 innings from March 25 vs. Lehigh through May 27 vs. Clemson in the ACC Tournament.
Duncan had a streak of 20 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings (snapped April 30 vs. North Carolina) and allowed just 10 hits, walked five and struck out 27 during the scoreless streak. He held opposing hitters to a .193 batting average, best mark on the staff, while allowing just eight of 19 inherited runners to score for the season, and stranded nine of the last 12 men he inherited. He was named to the 2003 and 2005 All-ACC Honor Roll.
"We are looking forward to seeing him as our reports on him have been positive," said Ross Vecchio, General Manager of the Wild Things. "We have been told that he is a competitor out of the bullpen with the ability to throw strikes and work quickly."
The Wild Things, who play in the Independent Frontier League of professional baseball, open the 2007 season on May 23rd at home when they welcome the league's newest team, the Slippery Rock Sliders to Washington. Season and group ticket packages are available. Check the Wild Things website (www.washingtonwildthings.com) for the latest news and schedule information.
