Washington Wild Things News Release

Washington, PA – The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, announced Wednesday that they have acquired RHP Grant Dorn from the Mid-Missouri Mavericks in exchange for RHP Anthony Kozol, and the Wild Things' second round draft pick (#23) in the 2004 Frontier League Draft.

Dorn, who hails from New Alexandria, PA, was a tenth round selection by the Montreal Expos in 1999 from North Carolina State University. In addition to playing in the Expos system, Dorn pitched in the Houston Astros system under new Wild Things' Field Manager, John Massarelli in 2002 for Michigan (A) of the Midwest League.

The Mavericks' opening day starter last season, Dorn posted a 6-7 record with a 3.74 ERA in 21 games. He was sixth in the Frontier League in innings pitched (127.2), fifth in strikeouts (107), and third in games started (19) while walking 34 batters, and surrendering 112 hits.

The Derry Area High School graduate pitched against the Wild Things August 10th at Falconi Field when he faced Jared Howton. Dorn gave up only five hits while striking out seven in eight innings, but took a 2-0 loss.

"Grant will be a tremendous asset to our pitching staff; we've been working on this for over a month," said Ross Vecchio, general manager of the Wild Things. "He's a great athlete. He played both baseball and football at NCSU. He was back up quarterback there and he was also the long snapper. I think that speaks to the kind of guy he is."

The Wild Things open their third season at Falconi Field on May 21st when they host the Kings from Kalamazoo. Individual tickets go on sale at Falconi Field Saturday, April 24th at 9:00.
