Wenatchee Wild News Release

Day 2 in Blaine has come to an end. There have been victories and there have been defeats but today, the Wenatchee Wild stand victorious with a redeeming 5-2 win over the Odessa Jackalopes. The team pulled themselves up and showed what hockey is really about; teamwork, communication, and passion for the sport.

As stated above, on the second day of the showcase, the Wild powered through to a 5-2 victory over the NAHL's Southern Division Odessa Jackalopes. In fact, Odessa lost to the Coulee Region Chill 5-2 on Day 1. I believe that this win will be a great kick start for the team for the 2014-2015 season. Hopefully the team can keep this trend running strong as they go up against Corpus Christi in tomorrow's game.

The first period was opened by Odessa with a goal from forward #9 Kenny Hausinger at 7:07 into the period with an assist for forward #13 Derek Brown, but after that, Wenatchee pulled out the best of the best and got the biscuit in the basket 3 more times before the final Odessa goal. The first Wild goal came in the form of a power play score, 10:50 into the first period. Forward #12 Jake Ahlgren was the first to light the lamp for Wenatchee and assists were given to defenseman #23 Dan Bailey and forward #29 David Powlowski. Wild forward #22 Jacob Liljeroos was credited with the second goal, that also occurred on a power play, at 13:59. This would be the last goal of the period. Assists were given to forwards #26 Jacob Hamacher and #20 Shane Bennett.

David Powlowski opened the scoring game 15 minutes and 19 seconds into the second period with an unassisted goal. As quickly as it started, the scoring game would soon be over for the second period as Odessa scored the last goal of the middle frame at 16:02 from the stick of Kenny Hausinger . Derek Brown and defenseman #14 Andrew McLean were credited with the assists. This would be Odessa's final goal of the game.

Jake Ahlgren joined the group of players picking up two points during this match with his final goal of the game 6:20 into the 3rd period. Help came from Shane Bennett and defenseman #21 Mitch Demario. Jacob Liljeroos closed things off in Wenatchee's favor, very few seconds to spare, with an empty net goal at exactly 20:00. The last assist of the game was given to Dan Bailey.

Five Wenatchee players scored two points in this game (Ahlgren, Liljeroos, Bailey, Bennett, and Powlowski) but Wild goaltender Forbes Ploszaj was just as impressive saving 21 out of 23 shots on goal. The Wild had 5 infractions this game consisting of Interference (Jake Ahlgren), Roughing (Anthony Mangano) (Ryan Gotelaere) and Tripping (Mitch Demario) (Lane Valimont).

"Our compete level was better tonight. We did a much better job at making plays and taking care of the puck. We also had a good effort in the net by Forbes," stated Coach Littler after the game.

The Wild will play their third game of the tournament tomorrow at 1:45 pm (Central Time) against the Corpus Christi IceRays! Make sure to watch the game if you can!
