Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

FISHKILL, NY (July 8, 2007) - As the Renegades came to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning, 4,595 Renegades fans inside Dutchess Stadium grew louder, feeding off the momentum of a potential come-from-behind Renegades victory.

Trailing 7-2 as they took their turn to bat in the bottom of the sixth, the Renegades chipped away at the Oneonta lead, scoring four runs over the next three innings. With just a one run lead in the eighth, Oneonta manager Andy Barkett handed the ball to reliever Jose Fragoso. Several quirky plays thwarted Fragoso's two-inning save attempt, and instead led to the Renegades most exciting win of the season.

In the bottom of the ninth, Maiko Loyola reached first safely on a fielding error by first-basemen Chris Carlson. With one out Stephen Vogt walked to put runners on first and second. After a rare balk was called on Fragoso, Henry Wrigley was walked intentionally to load the bases.

Fragoso seemingly recovered from the balk as he struck out Mike McCormick, but a passed ball off the glove of Kris Rochelle allowed Loyola to score the tying run. With two outs, designated hitter Jimmy Mayer came to bat in front of a now-deafening sellout crowd. Perhaps still rattled, Fragoso darted a fastball wide of home plate allowing pinch-runner Angel Fermin to race down the line for the game-winning run.

After tonight's 8-7 victory and an 8-0 thrashing of the Tigers Saturday night, the Renegades (9-10) aim for the series sweep over Oneonta (9-11) tomorrow afternoon at 12:05 at "The Dutch." Josh Johnson will seek his second win of the season as he takes the mound for the Renegades, while Guillermo Moscoso makes the start for the Tigers.
