BLAINE, Minn. - TheWenatchee Wild suffered a 2-0 loss Thursday to the Wichita Falls Wildcatsduring Day 2 of the Showcase Tournament at the Schwan Super Rink in Blaine,Minn. The loss dropped the Wild's tournament and overall record to 1-1.
Scoreless for more than 55 minutes, the Wildcats finally gotthe go-ahead goal, and only goal they would need, on a point-blank power-playshot by Dakota Klecha. Drew Allen and Stephen Fahlstedt assisted. Chris Leonescored the Wildcats' second goal of the game with just over a minute remainingin regulation.
Netminder MarcusZelzer (Bay, Wisc.), who was making his first start with the Wild, played atremendous game. He made 27 saves on 29 shots, including two key stops ontwo-on-ones and several other blocks on quality scoring chances from closerange.
Goaltender Eric Garavaglia was also making his debut withthe Wildcats. He stopped all 26 of Wenatchee's shots, several of which were ofthe dazzling variety.
Wenatchee failed to score on seven power-play chances whileWichita Falls went 1-for-4 on power-play chances.
The Wild will play the Traverse City North Stars at 2:30p.m. (PST) tomorrow. The North Stars are 2-1 overall this season and 1-1 at theShowcase Tournament after earning a 4-0 win over the Austin Bruins today.
