Wenatchee Wild News Release
WENATCHEE, Wash. - The Wenatchee Wild (11-5-0) took sole possession of first place in the West Division Thursday night with an 8-0 victory over the Dawson Creek Rage at the Town Toyota Center.
Zach Frye (Spokane, Wash.) put the Wild up 77 seconds into the contest. During the Wild's first power-play chance of the contest, Eliot Grauer (Mukioteo, Wash.) snapped a shot toward the front of the net from the bottom of the near circle. Frye was there to tap in his fourth goal of the season. Shawn Pauly (Bellingham, Wash.) earned the second assist on the play.
D.J. Vandercook (Farmington Hills, Mich.) gave the Wild a 2-0 lead with 3:09 remaining before the first intermission. Skating through the slot, Vandercook gathered a rebound and beat Rage netminder Andrew Walsh with a backhander. Michael Di Puma (Chicago, Ill.) and Carl-Johan Sjogren (Sodertalje, Sweden) assisted on Vandercook's fourth goal of the season.
Wenatchee began the second period the same way it began the first period - with a power-play goal. This time it was Ben Carey (Centennial, Colo.) scoring on the man-advantage 1:54 into the frame on a rebound. Kyle Huson (Parker, Colo.) and Anthony Martinez (Schawmburg, Ill.) assisted on the play, which gave the Wild a 3-0 lead.
The Wild took a 4-goal lead into the third period when Huson scored with 10 seconds left in the second period. Entering the offensive zone down the left wing, Carey sent a deft pass on his backhand to the slot for Huson, who scored on a one-timer. Pauly earned the second assist.
Wenatchee added four goals in the third period to rout Dawson Creek, 8-0. Di Puma scored the first goal of the final frame during a 4-on-4 situation at the 9:20 mark. Brennen Parker (Villa Park, Calif.) and Huson assisted. Matt Cope (Lakewood, Colo.) made it 6-0 on his rising wrist shot from the far circle at the 13:18 mark on Huson's third helper of the evening.
The Wild added two more power-play goals late in the third period. Rumble scored the first of those goals with a little under four minutes to play on a hard slap shot from between the faceoff circles. Tyler Hope (McKinney, Texas) and Frye assisted. Frye then scored the Wild's eighth goal of the game, and his fifth of the season, with 17 seconds remaining on a shot from the blue line. Rumble assisted.
Huson led the Wild with four points (1G, 3A). Frye scored two goals and added an assist for three points. Di Puma, Rumble and Carey each recorded a goal and an assist. Pauly contributed two assists.
Wild goaltender Brandon Jaeger (Champlin, Minn.) improved his record to 9-3 and stopped all 16 of the shots he faced for his first shutout of the season. The Wild peppered Dawson Creek's goalies with 57 shots. Walsh, who took the loss, stopped 36 of the 40 shots he faced through 40 minutes of work. Edward Dyson, who relieved Walsh, made 13 saves on 17 third-period shots.
Wenatchee, which already owned the No. 1 power play in the NAHL, scored four man-advantage goals on seven opportunities. Dawson Creek went 0-for-5 on power-play chances.
The Wild will try to earn its second straight win over the Rage tomorrow at 7:05 p.m.
