Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
Wichita Falls surrendered a third period lead only to get a game-winning goal from Ryan Frost late in the third period to defeat the Corpus Christi IceRays, 4-2, at the American Bank Center on Friday night. Kevin Crowe tied the game in third period for the Rays, but it was not enough for Corpus Christi to get a point from the game. With the win, Wichita Falls improves to 13-5-2 (28 points) while the IceRays drop to 7-9-2 (16 points).
Michael Benedict scored his team-leading tenth goal of the season and Crowe collected a two-point night with a goal and an assist in the loss.
Corpus Christi scored the first goal of the game for the first time since October 10th at home against the New Mexico Mustangs. It was Benedict (10) putting the IceRays on top, 1-0, at the 13:08 mark on the power play as he slid one past Tyler Green. Corpus Christi continued on the offensive in the first period until late in the period when they picked up simultaneous major penalties which resulted in the expulsion of Cody Milligan from the game. The Wildcats capitalized on the ensuing five-on-three power play, when Sean Keane (11) tipped one past Pheonix Copley at the 17:51 mark. The score remained tied after the first period of action with Corpus Christi outshooting Wichita Falls, 15-12.
The âCats scored the only goal of the second period on a two-on-one odd man rush with Drew Allen (6) beating Copley off a feed from Tanner Fahlstedt at the 13:25 mark to make the score, 2-1. Shots were 12-11 in favor of the Wildcats.
Corpus Christi picked up their game in the third period, collecting three power-play opportunities and tied the game on the third man advantage when Crowe (4) deflected one past Green at the 14:12 mark. New IceRays defenseman Colton Saucerman assisted on the tally for his first NAHL point. Things appeared headed for overtime before Frost (5) took advantage of a carom off the end boards in the IceRays zone and scored with just 11 seconds remaining in the third period. Frost (6) added an empty-net goal for good measure off the ensuing faceoff to cap the scoring in favor of the Wildcats, 4-2. Final shots were 40-38 for Wichita Falls.
The IceRays head out on a season-long, seven-game road trip beginning next Friday, November 12, 2010 in Frisco, TX against the Texas Tornado.
