Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
Waldorf, MD. - Southern Maryland came in to game two of their home opening series against the Lancaster Barnstormers with hopes of a victory that would slide them up the Freedom Division standings. It appeared as though that could happen as Southern Maryland lead Lancaster 2-1 heading into the eighth. The "Stormers plated six runs in the inning, leading to a Blue Crabs defeat, in what would be a 7-4 final.
Pat Dean (1-0) pitched a phenomenal game for the Blue Crabs, as he fanned eight batters in six innings of work, allowing just one unearned run coming from a Caleb Gindl RBI single in the third inning. Southern Maryland struck back in the bottom of the inning when Frank Martinez notched his eighth RBI of the young season, driving in Tony Thomas.
The Blue Crabs took the lead in the fifth with an electrifying double to the right field fence off the bat of Rubi Silva to score Edwin Garcia, giving the good guys a 2-1 lead. The game seemed to be in the hands of the Blue Crabs until a bizarre eighth inning that included six total Barnstormers' runs, including three unearned, lead to a deficit that even a two run Blue Crab bottom of the ninth was unable to overcome.
The squad returns to Regency Furniture Stadium for the series finale tomorrow, with a first pitch at 2:05 PM.
