Wichita's three-goal third period defeats RiverKings

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Wichita Thunder scored three third period goals and snapped a three game losing streak with a 5-2 win over the Memphis RiverKings Thursday night at the DeSoto Civic Center. The Thunder broke open a 2-2 game with those third period tallies and sent the RiverKings to their fourth straight defeat.

After a scoreless first period, the teams combined to score four goals in a span of 3:51 in the second. Ryan Campbell and Travis Banga scored in the period for Memphis while Tab Lardner and Tyler Liebel found the net for the Thunder. It was Campbell's 17th of the season and Banga's 23rd.

With the score tied at two to start the third period, Wichita took control on goals by Daniel Tetrault, Liebel and Joe Blaznek. The Thunder had a 15-6 shots advantage in that third period; finishing with a 41-25 advantage for the game.

Jon Volp picked up the win on 23 saves while Guy St. Vincent took the loss, stopping 36 of 41 shots.

RiverKings veteran winger Dorian Anneck returned from the 45-day IR and played for the first time since December 31. He assisted on Campbell's goal and had four shots on net.

The RiverKings take to the road for the rest of the weekend with games tomorrow night at Oklahoma City and Saturday night at Tulsa. Both games start at 7:35.
