Lubbock Cotton Kings News Release

Lubbock, TX - Blair Manning had a goal and an assist for two points to lead the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs to a 5-3 win over the Lubbock Cotton Kings Thursday night at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum, which extended the Mudbugs overall winning streak to a CHL active best nine games and their road winning streak to five wins.

Lubbock jumped out with a pair of goals to start the game, with Jon Foster wristing a shot into the shelf of the goal 2:15 into the game and Bobby Brown beating goaltender Ken Carroll on the power play from the right side 6:34 later. Bossier bounced back with a pair of goals late in the period to tie the contest 2-2. While on the power play, Brett Smith opened the 'Bugs scoring with a redirection as 4:08 remained in the period. 2:08 later, Manning took a loose puck coast-to-coast and fired a low wrist shot that snuck underneath the pads of goaltender Brad Buss, as he was caught transitioning to his right. Bossier-Shreveport out-shot the Kings 21-12 in the period.

The 'Bugs continued their offensive output in the second period. Lubbock had trouble clearing the puck out of the defensive zone and Chris Brassard and Ryan Manitowich took advantage of a Kings turnover and worked the puck to a wide open Chad Spurr, who cashed in 3:57 into the period to give the 'Bugs a 3-2 lead. Brassard's assist extended his point streak to 13 consecutive games. Dan Wildfong extended the lead to 4-2 with 6:30 remaining in the period by firing a shot over the shoulder of Buss. The Mudbugs continued their shooting dominance, out-shooting Lubbock 16-12 in the period.

The lead was extended to 5-2 5:20 into the final period with a goal by Quade Lightbody. Lubbock closed the game's scoring, ending the bleeding with a shorthanded breakaway goal by Emery Olauson 2:31 later. Olauson's goal extended the Kings streak to four consecutive games with a shorthanded goal and it was tallied against a Mudbugs squad that leads the CHL in shorthanded goals allowed (only the fifth allowed this season).

Bossier-Shreveport went onto out-shoot the Kings 46-31 in the game, which was the second highest amount of shots allowed by the Kings this season. Buss stopped a career high 41 shots in the loss, while Carroll won his tenth consecutive game in net stopping 28 of 31 shots. Each team converted a power play chance, as Lubbock was 1 for 6 and Bossier-Shreveport was 1 for 8.

Lubbock remains home, as the host the Colorado Eagles on Saturday at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum.
