
Wichita Edges Rage in Shootout

Broomfield, Colo. - The Rocky Mountain Rage and Wichita Thunder have a history of deciding their games during a shootout and tonight was no exception. It marked their third shootout this season. The Rage posted 53 shots on goal to tie a season-high team record, but Wichita came away with the 3-2 win at the Broomfield Event Center.
Both goaltenders put on a show tonight. Rage goalie David Guerrera made 30 saves and Wichita's Jon Horrell made 51 saves.
Rocky Mountain drew the first goal at 3:57 of the first period. Defenseman Kyle Kos skated down the right wing, made a cross-ice pass to left winger Mark Wires. Wires sent the puck across the crease. Trevor Weisgerber completed the play by tipping the puck in net from the stick side of Horrell.
Wichita tied up the game at 12:34 when center Travis Clayton wristed in a powerplay goal. Jason Duda and Kris Wiebe were credited with assists.
The Thunder took their first lead of the game in the second period with a goal by Scott Rozendal at 5:49. The Rage answered back by outshooting Wichita 22-10 in the period and scoring a goal to tie the game. Winger Nathan Rosychuk picked up a pass from Wires and fired the puck in net from the glove side of Horrell.
Rocky Mountain dominated play in the third period outshooting the Thunder 14-7, but Wichita goaltender Horrell kept the Rage scoreless. Rage goaltender Guerrera also made all seven saves in the period forcing overtime.
Both teams went scoreless in the overtime period. Wichita's Travis Clayton ended up with the game winning shootout goal.
The Rage improves to 16-35-7 (39 points) for fourth place in the northwest division and the Gorillas improve to 26-26-7 (59 points) for third place in the northwest division
