Laredo Bucks News Release


LAREDO, Texas - The defending CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks dominated the Austin Ice Bats by out shooting them 49-12 and cruising to a 4-0 victory on Friday night at the LEC in front of 6,138 loud fans. The Bucks got goals from four different players and matched a franchise record for fewest shots allowed in a game. Overall Laredo is a Southern Conference best 40-15-5 and they are second in the CHL with 85 total points in the race for the Governors' Cup. On Saturday Laredo hosts the Memphis RiverKings in their final home game of the 2006-07 regular season. The Bucks will wear St. Patrick's Day jerseys which will be auctioned off after the game. The Bucks drew first blood as forward Jeff Bes cut left side into the zone and then fed the puck across to the right circle for forward Igor Pohanka who snapped it home at 2:01. It was his seventh goal of the season. Laredo made it 2-0 as forward Leo Thomas cut down the left wing, turned the corner and slipped a shot home low along the ice stick side at 16:22 for his 21st of the season. The Bucks out shot the Ice Bats 19-4 in the period.

Laredo continued to dominate play in the second period as they again out shot Austin 19-4 in the middle 20 minutes of regulation, but they were unable to add to their lead as Austin goalie Miguel Beaudry was stellar.

In the third the Bucks finally added to their lead as Bes put home a backdoor feed from Pohanka at 5:22. It was the team leading 27th for Bes. Late in the game rookie forward Bobby Chaumont slipped home a rebound at 16:59 for his 24th to finish the scoring. Kevin Reiter stopped all four shots in the third period to complete the whitewash. FINAL SCORE Laredo 4, Austin 0.

Reiter turned aside all 12 shots as he improved to 15-6-1 and posted his second shutout. Beaudry was terrific stopping 45 of 49 shots, but fell to 12-11-11. The Bucks were 0-2 on the power play while Austin was also 0-2. Laredo out shot Austin 49-12. It tied the franchise for least shots allowed in a game, first done on 12/16/03 against Corpus Christi.
