Central Hockey League Award Finalists Announced

Published on March 16, 2007 under Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

Six finalists for each of four significant Central Hockey League awards have been determined, selected by the CHL front office following nominations from member clubs. Balloting will take place among CHL Head Coaches, team Communications Departments and selected media members to determine the recipients of the CHL's Most Valuable Player, Most Outstanding Goaltender, Most Outstanding Defenseman and Rookie of the Year awards.

2006-2007 CHL Most Valuable Player candidates include the Youngstown tandem of Jeff Christian and Chris Richards, currently ranked first and second in the CHL scoring race, along with CHL goals leader Brent Kelly of the Arizona Sundogs, Colorado Eagles forward Riley Nelson, Corpus Christi Rayz forward Justin Quenneville and Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs goaltender John DeCaro.

Joining DeCaro as Most Outstanding Goaltender finalists are New Mexico's David Cacciola, Colorado's Marco Emond, Wichita's Sebastien Laplante, Laredo's Eric Marvin and Larry Sterling of the Memphis RiverKings. The selected finalists to receive Most Outstanding Defenseman consideration include Oklahoma City's Mike Burgoyne, Memphis' Derek Landmesser, New Mexico's Aaron MacInnis, Corpus Christi's Geno Parrish, Laredo's Adam Rivet and Colorado's Brad Williamson.

Rookie of the Year honors will be determined amongst three sets of teammates. Bossier-Shreveport's DeCaro and left winger Cam Abbott are candidates, along with Laredo forwards Bobby Chaumont and Chris Korchinski and New Mexico forwards Ryan McLeod and Lance Herauf.

Additional awards to be determined include Coach of the Year, Equipment Manager of the Year and Athletic Trainer of the Year, as determined by their CHL peers, along with six member All-CHL and All-Rookie teams. The CHL's regular season point leader will receive the Joe Burton Scoring Champion award, while the CHL front office will determine the recipients of both the Man of the Year (for outstanding leadership and contributions to the community) and Rick Kozuback (perseverance, determination and commitment to hockey) awards based on nominations and supporting material from CHL member teams.
