Independence, MO - The Wichita Thunder opens its holiday week with a road trip tonight to Independence to take on the Kansas City Mavericks.

Tonight is the fourth meeting in the last 13 days between the Thunder and the Mavericks. Wichita took the first three of the season-series and have claimed seven out of a possible eight points in the Independence Cup. The Thunder are coming off of a weekend split with the Allen Americans. Kansas City is red hot, winners of five in a row.

Wichita enters tonight's game three points ahead of Colorado and Idaho in first place in the Mountain Division with 23 points. The Thunder have one game in hand on both the Eagles and Steelheads. Kansas City is second in the Central Division with 18 points and are six back of Toledo for first.

Mark MacMillan leads all scorers in the Independence Cup Series with seven points (4g, 3a) while Jeremy Beaudry (2g, 2a) and Istvan Sofron (1g, 3a) each have four. Darren Nowick leads the Mavericks with three points (2g, 1a) and Matt Robertson has two goals against the Thunder.

The Thunder close their two-game road swing on Friday night in Quad City and will return home Saturday to host the Mallards for the first time this season.
