10 QUESTIONS WITH DANE SARDINHA

Why baseball?

My family really, my uncle, my grandpa, they all played baseball...and my aunt and my mom they all played softball, so I was always around ballparks - it's definately in my family.

What do you do during the off-season?

Not much...I just hang out, go to the beach once a while in Hawaii, I hang out with my brothers.

What famous person would you most like to meet? Maybe Bob Marley...his music is mellow, he seems like a mellow guy...I'd like to meet him.

What has been your most memorable moment in baseball?

Getting signed...I had heard so much about the draft, and they slotted me places to go... when you don't go there you kind of get upset, because you're already expecting a certain place in a certain round. Leading up to it was really exciting, but when it happened, it kind of lets you down a little bit when you don't go as high as expected...but after you sign, and start playing, then it's great.

What was your most embarrassing moment in baseball?

I think it would have to be a wild pitch...I was trying to throw a guy out at third, but kind of launched it into left field and lost the game...that's the main one I can remember.

Do you have any lucky rituals?

This past off-season I had one, which was to eat this dessert at a pizza parlor, it was cookie dough with ice cream on top, it was personal pan size, so I started eating that every night...but haven't had one since, I think I'd better start eating them again!

How do you like Chattanooga?

Chattanooga's nice. It's a great place, especially with downtown being right here. My wife loves it.

Who do you idolize, in sports and in life?

No one guy in particular, I idolize guys who are kind of quiet and keep to themselves, humble. I like modest people, not guys who are cocky. I like anyone who is modest and humble.

Where will you be in 10 or 20 years?

In 10 years hopefully still playing baseball, if not that, back home in Hawaii. In 20 years, I'll probably be in Hawaii, on the beach raising a family, and watching my son play, hopefully, professional baseball.

Is there anything you'd like to say to the fans?

Yes, things are going to turn around for the better...I think our team's going to turn it around in the second half and we'll be all right.
