WHL Announces Weekly Award Winners

Calgary, Alta. - The Western Hockey League announced today that Regina Pats forward Tanner Howe has been named WHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 27, 2022.

Howe, who turns 17 years of age today, recorded seven points (5G-2A) over his two appearances this past week, helping the Pats open a B.C. Division road trip with back-to-back victories..

The product of Prince Albert, Sask., started his week with a goal Friday, November 25 as Regina shut out the Vancouver Giants 3-0.

The following evening, Howe became the first 16-year-old WHL skater to record six points in a single game since Cole Sillinger in 2019, scoring four times and adding a pair of assists as the Pats upended the Victoria Royals 9-5.

Howe begins the week in ninth place among WHL skaters with 33 points (15G-18A), his totals are the most in the WHL among players not eligible for the NHL Draft until 2024.

Originally selected by Regina in the fourth round of the 2020 WHL Prospects Draft, Howe has amassed 104 points (43G-61A) over 95 regular season games.

Tanner Howe and the Regina Pats are next in action Tuesday, November 29, when they continue a B.C. Division road swing versus the Kelowna Rockets (7:05 p.m. PT, Prospera Place).

BLAZERS NETMINDER ERNST NAMED WHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK

The Western Hockey League announced today that Kamloops Blazers goaltender Dylan Ernst has been named WHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending November 27, 2022.

Ernst stopped 60 of the 62 shots he faced over two road starts this past week, posting a 1.00 goals-against average and .968 save percentage in the process.

Ernst, who hails from Weyburn, Sask., began his week with a 26-save performance Wednesday, November 23 as his Blazers defeated the Tri-City Americans 6-1.

The 18-year-old then earned Third Star honours Saturday, November 26 by making 34 saves in Kamloops' 4-1 victory against the Prince George Cougars.

With the victory, Ernst improved his 2022-23 record to 10-4-1-1 and 6-1-1-0 over his last eight outings.

Originally selected by the Blazers in the second round of the 2019 WHL Draft, Ernst holds a career 27-13-3-1 record, 2.71 goals-against average, .906 save percentage and two shutouts over 45 career WHL contests.

Dylan Ernst and the Kamloops Blazers are next in action Wednesday, November 30 when they play host to the Regina Pats (7:00 p.m. PT, Sandman Centre).
