WhiteWings Win Slugfest in San Angelo

San Angelo - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings continued to put big numbers on the scoreboard in a 7-6 win over the San Angelo Colts Friday at Foster Field.

Luis Montano (3-1) struck out the first batter he faced on three pitches, but after walking Mark Ramos on four pitches, Josh Collazo swung at the first pitch and hit an RBI-double to make it 1-0 Colts (9-14).

With one out in the bottom of the second, Jason Crosland singled and Trey Carter doubled. Butch Ballez followed with an RBI-single to make it 2-0.

Kevin Griffin answered for the WhiteWings (13-10) in the top of the fourth with his third home run of the season, a two-run shot off of Aaron Cuningham (1-3), to tie the game at 2-2.

Landon Camp led off the bottom of the inning with a double and scored two batters later on a single by Ballez to give the Colts the lead back at 3-2.

The WhiteWings sent 11 batters to the plate in the top of the fifth while scoring five runs to take a 7-3 lead. Jose Sanchez led off with a single. Roberto Rodriguez tried to lay down a sacrifice bunt, but the ball was thrown away. Javis Diaz followed with a two-run triple and Domenic Di Ricco hit an RBI-groundout. Quiroz walked and stole both and econd and third, allowing him to score when Eric Gonzalez hit a two-out fly-ball to right field that was dropped by Alex Hale. Tristan Gaines came in and allowed an RBI-single to Griffin to cap the inning.

In the bottom of the inning, however, Collazo hit a solo-home run and Crosland, the league's all-time home run leader (52), hit a two-run shot, his league-lead tying seventh of the season, to bring the Colts within 7-6.

Freddy Ballestas pitched three scoreless innings to set-up Anderson Garcia's third save of the season after pitching a scoreless ninth.

The WhiteWings visit the San Angelo Colts for the first of four on Friday at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Misael DeJesus (0-1) is expected to face right-hander Alex Morales (0-1).
