Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release
Harlingen - With the bases loaded and two outs in the fourth, Welinson Baez took advantage of the infield playing back and dropped down a bunt single to score Agustin Septimo to send the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings to a 5-4 victory over the Amarillo Dillas in ten innings tonight at Harlingen Field.
Robert Wooley (2-2) gave up a leadoff double to Septimo in the tenth. After a sacrifice bunt moved Septimo to third, Wooley intentionally walked Jonathan Poterson. One out later, Wooley intentionally walked Alberto Cruz to set up Baez's game-winning hit.
Juan Jimenez retired the first eight Dillas (14-14) he faced, but Willie James and Keanon Simon hit back-to-back two-out doubles in the third. Rafael Ozuna followed with a walk and Carlos Figueroa hit a two-run double to make it 3-0.
That would be it against Jimenez, who allowed just two more walks and one hit batsman while striking out four in six and two-thirds innings of work.
The WhiteWings (13-15) responded against Richard Jessup in the bottom of the inning. Jonathan Poterson hit a leadoff single and Brian Nichols followed with his first home run since rejoining the team to make it 3-2.
The WhiteWings tied it in the sixth. Casey Allen reached on a one-out infield-single and Agustin Septimo walked. One out later, Poterson hit an RBI-single.
In the seventh, Alberto Cruz drew a leadoff walk. Welinson Baez laid down a sacrifice bunt, moving Cruz to second. He went onto third when the ball was thrown away by Jessup, allowing Baez to reach, ending Jessup's night. Andy Noonan came in and allowed a sacrifice fly to Danny Etkin to make it 4-3.
Former-Major Leaguer Jesus Sanchez (1-0) made his debut for the WhiteWings with two outs in the seventh, and after working out of a bases-loaded jam, he allowed a two-out home run to Trent Lockwood to tie the game in the eighth. It was Lockwood's league-leading ninth home run of the season.
The WhiteWings had runners at first and second with one out in the ninth, but Wooley came in to strikeout Rafael Zorrilla and Allen to force extra innings.
The WhiteWings travel to San Angelo for the first game of a four-game series against the Colts tomorrow night at 7:05 at Foster Field. Left-hander Eric Domangue (0-0) will make his first start for the WhiteWings against left-hander Brett Lester (1-2).
