Colts Take Series from Broncos

San Angelo, Texas--- Chandler Barnard continued to win, earning his sixth straight victory in as many starts as the San Angelo Colts (19-9) took the final game of the four game series form the Laredo Broncos(9-19), with a score of 4-2.

The Colts continue to tack on runs in the first inning. With one out, Jason Diaz served a single to left field. Ronnie Gaines then struck a single placing runners at first and second. Diaz nabbed his 12th stolen base of the season as he stole third. With two outs, Josh Collazo pushed a single to right field scoring Diaz, the Colts took a 1-0 lead.

The Broncos responded in the top half of the second. Jaime Morales singled scoring Andres Santos from second base tying the game at one.

The Colts would take back the lead in the bottom of the third. Ronnie Gaines and Jason Landreth began the inning with singles.Gaines then stole third base which set up and RBI groundout to the right side by Hunter Jobes scoring Gaines. San Angelo went back up by a run.

The Colts continued to put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Collazo stepped to the plate with two outs, sending a drive that one hopped the wall in right center field for a stand up double. Hunter Jobes proceeded to drive the ball to the other part of the field doubling to left centerfield scoring Collazo, handing the Colts a 3-1 lead.

That lead dwindled to just one heading into the bottom half of the eighth. Shortstop Butch Ballez grounded to left field for a single. Charley Belew laid down a sacrifice bunt moving Ballez to second. Bradley Goldsmith sent a soaring fly ball down the left field line that carrumed just off the wall scoring Ballez as San Angelo extended their lead to 4-2.

Chase Vacek showed no ill effects from the previous nights hiccup as he worked a quick ninth inning slamming the door and collecting his fifth save of the year.

Chandler Barnard (6-0) worked seven and 2/3 innings allowing just two earned runs while striking out seven. The loss would go to Broncos lefty Luis Arroyo (0-3). Jameson Maj faced just one hitter in the eighth inning record ing a strikeout. Chase Vacek allowed a single hit ninth while striking out the final batter to end the game.

The Colts offense collected 14 hits while scoring four runs. For the second straight night Bradley Goldsmith had a three hit game, two singles and a double, including an RBI. Josh Collazo contributed a single and a double, a run scored, and an RBI.

San Angelo is in the midst of a twelve game homestand as the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings will come to Foster Field tomorrow for a four game series. Friday night will be Tom Green County Night at the ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05, gates will open at 6:05.
