
Thunder Slips Past Roadrunners

ROBSTOWN, TEXAS ---- A sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning produced the only run of the game as the Coastal Bend Thunder defeated the Edinburg Roadrunners 1-0 Thursday night at Fairgrounds Field.
After a hit-by-pitch and two walks, Manny Mejia hit a sacrifice fly for the Thunder in the bottom of the first inning that scored Mike Gross for a 1-0 lead.
Tim Haines (3-2) picked up the loss after he allowed one run while scattering six hits and striking out five in seven innings of work.
Frank James (2-0) got the win after allowing four hits and no runs in his eight innings pitched.
Benny Cepeda pitched a perfect ninth for his fifth save of the season.
The Roadrunners (13-15) and Thunder (16-12) will start a four-game series on Friday night at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium with the first pitch scheduled at 7:05 p.m. Miguel Martinez (1-2) is expected to pitch for the Roadrunners.
