Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

Harlingen - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (9-8) are winners of four- straight for the first time since winning six-in-a-row from June 18- through-June 23, 2007 after beating the Laredo Broncos (4-13) 6-1 tonight at Harlingen Field.

Rico Santana led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a single against Gregorio Martinez (1-2) and Alberto Cruz followed with a run- scoring double down the leftfield line that kicked up chalk. Two outs later, Joaquin Rodriguez hit an RBI-single to make it 2-0.

With two outs in the sixth, Welinson Baez reached on an infield single. Rodriguez came up and the first pitch went over his head and to the backstop. Rodriguez hit the next pitch out of the park beyond leftfield to make it 4-0. It was his second home run of the season.

That was more than enough to get Sendy Vasquez (1-2) his first win of the season. He pitched six innings, striking out four while allowing three hits and four walks.

In the bottom of the seventh, Ryan Kottke picked up his first hit of the season and stole second (his first-career steal). With one out, Agustin Septimo walked. Kottke moved to third on a wild pitch and Septimo stole second. Santana followed with a two-run single to make it 6-0.

In six and one-third innings, Martinez struck out 13 while giving up nine hits and walking two.

In the seventh, former-WhiteWing David Cardona hit a home run against Juan Jimenez to make it 6-1. Jimenez pitched the final three innings for his first save.
