WhiteWings Re-acquire Brian Nichols

Harlingen - United League Baseball's Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings announced today they have traded catcher Danny Etkin to the San Angelo Colts for first baseman Brian Nichols.

Expected to be the regular designated hitter, Nichols hit .333 (10- for-30) with one home runs and seven RBI in eight games. He also had six walks against three strikeouts.

In 161 career-games in the United League, Nichols is a .300 hitter with 21 home runs and 106 RBI.

Nichols played in the Texas Winter League in 2007 before signing with Laredo that season. After batting .197 in 24 games, he became a member of the WhiteWings and hit .328 for the rest of the season with six doubles, five triples, six home runs and 34 RBI.

He began the 2008 season with the WhiteWings, hitting .291 with nine doubles, six triples, nine home runs and 46 RBI before moving on to the Alexandria Aces for their playoff run. In 13 games, he was 20- for-52 (.385) with four home runs and 11 RBI.

Nichols hasn't played in nine days due to a groin injury.

Etkin was 10-for-41 (.244) with one home run and four RBI in 14 games for the WhiteWings.
