Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release
The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings scored in every inning through the fifth -- leading by 10-0, but the feisty Thunder came up with five runs in the last four innings -- but not enough, as the WhiteWings took a 10-5 victory in the last of a four-game home and home series, at Harlingen Field Tuesday night.
The win split the series 2-and-2.
The WhiteWings jumped all over Thunder starter Brian Murphy for 10 runs and 11 hits before he was relieved.
They led off the bottom of the first with three consecutive singles, by lead off batter Francisco Santana, Legum Barroso and Fidel Hernandez, getting a pair of runs.
They scored one in the second three in the third, one in the fourth and three more in the fifth, to get their 10-0 bulge.
The Thunder scored a run in the sixth and another in the seventh, then threw a mild scare in the ninth with three runs, before being stopped
Five WhiteWings had multiple hits -- Hernandez and Luis Fuentes each three for four, Santano was two for four and Miguel Alfonso and Bryan Marquez were two for four. Santana, Fuentes, Marquez and James Mays each hit doubles.
In all the WhiteWings had 14 hits, while the Thunder had 10.
The WhiteWings have Wednesday off, then return to Edinburg Stadium on Thursday to begin another series (four games away) with the Thunder. They return to Harlingen Field against the Fort Worth Cats on Monday.
