Edinburg Roadrunners News Release

ABILENE, Texas - Ryan Smith allowed one run on two hits in five innings of work to lead the Edinburg Roadrunners past the Abilene Prairie Dogs 3-1 in game one of Tuesday night's doubleheader at Walt Driggers Field.

James Hoyt and Paul Koss followed Smith, who struck out five, with two scoreless innings.

The Roadrunners (10-9) gave Smith and the pitching staff all the run support they needed as they scored two in the top of the first. With runners on the corners, Carlos Hereaud hit an RBI sacrifice fly to center field that allowed Stantrel Smith to score. After a walk to Derek Perren, Tony Phillips followed with an RBI single that made it 2-0.

Abilene (7-11) got their only run in the bottom of the third when a dropped third strike allowed Eddie Browne to score from third making it 2-1.

Wilmer Pino gave the Roadrunners an insurance run in the top of the seventh with an RBI double that allowed Stantrel Smith to score which pushed the lead to 3-1.

Koss earned his first save of the season with a scoreless bottom of the seventh giving Edinburg the 3-1 victory.

Woods Fines (0-3) got the loss after allowing two runs on three hits in three and a third innings.

Roadrunners and Prairie Dogs are currently in the second game of their doubleheader. Left-hander Miguel Martinez is on the mound for Edinburg.
