Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

Amarillo, TX - The first half champion Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (42-41, 13-20) watched the Amarillo Dillas (43-41, 17-17) score seven runs in the seventh inning to erase a 9-3 deficit, but that didn't deter the WhiteWings who ended up winning 11-10 in ten innings tonight at Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.

Shawn Morrison (3-3) came on in relief with one out in the eighth and kept the WhiteWings in check until the tenth when John Beal hit a one out single and moved to second on a dropped pick off throw on the part of first baseman Jack Chapman. Beal moved to third on a ground out and after an intentional walk of Omar Bramasco, scored on a Miguel Peguero RBI-single.

Derek Bennett (4-2) pitched scoreless ninth and tenth innings for the win.

Luany Sanchez put the WhiteWings on the board in the second against Kyle Allen. After a Ryan Fox single, Sanchez took a first pitch fastball and deposited it on the other side of the left field wall. It was hit second homer of the season, making it 2-0.

The WhiteWings sent eight men to the plate in the third as Beal led off with a double and Bub Bergstrom reached on a bunt single. Bramasco followed with an RBI-double. Peguero hit an RBI-ground out and Fox hit an RBI-double. One batter later, Sam McLain hit an RBI- triple to make it 6-0.

The Dillas got one back against Angel Cordero in the bottom of the frame when Josh Ashton led off with a walk and Kevin Moore was hit by a pitch. A Jonathan Reynoso single loaded the bases, but Justin Wenger hit into a double play. It got the run home, but that was it as the WhiteWings escaped up 6-1.

The WhiteWings got that run back in the fifth when Bramasco led off with a single, advanced to second on a passed ball, and scored on a Fox RBI-single to make it 7-1.

Justin Wenger hit a two-run home run with one out in the fifth, his third of the season, to make it 7-3. A hit and a walk later, Bobby Darling relieved Cordero and escaped the inning.

The WhiteWings got one back in the sixth with two outs as Beal reached on an infield single and Bergstrom walked to chase Allen. Matt Lawrence came in and got Bramasco to hit a grounder to short, but Ashton threw it away to let Beal score and make it 8-3.

Ryan Fox hit his 19th home run of the season in the seventh, a solo- shot, to make it 9-3. It was his first home run since July 13th.

The Dillas mounted a rally in the bottom of the frame, sending 11 men to the plate as Reynoso, Wenger and Carlos Figueroa all singled to open the inning. Danny Bravo drew a bases loaded walking to knock out Darling. Chris Gale (5-3) came in and gave up a two-run single to Gary Schneidmiller. One out later, Jordan Ramos hit an RBI-single and Ashton reached on an infield single. Kevin Moore walked, but pinch- runner Ryan Crespi got erased on a fielder's choice from Reynoso on which two runs scored, one on a wild relay throw from Beal as the WhiteWings tried to turn two, making it 10-9 Dillas.

Nick Burger came on in the eighth and allowed a one out single to Bergstrom, who then moved to third on a wild pick off throw and scored on a Bramasco single to tie the game 10-10.

The WhiteWings and Dillas play game two of this three game set tomorrow night at 7:05. Joe Rogers (9-3) is expected to face Taylor Allen (9-6).
