Amarillo Dillas News Release
AMARILLO, TX - Trailing 9-3 in the seventh, the Amarillo Dillas rallied for seven runs to take a lead, but the Rio Grande Valley White Wings responded with a run in the eighth and one in the tenth for a 11-10 victory over Amarillo in ten innings on Tuesday night at the Amarillo National Dilla Villa in front of a crowd of 3,317.
Dillas reliever Shawn Morrison (3-3) got the loss despite not allowing an earned run in an out short of three innings. White Wings closer/reliever Derek Bennett (4-2) gave up only two hits in two innings of work for the win.
Rio Grande Valley scored four runs in the second and two in the third to take a 6-0 lead before the Dillas would score. In the third, with the bases loaded, Justin Wenger grounded into a double play with no outs to score Josh Ashton for a 6-1 score.
After another White Wings run in the fifth, Amarillo scored twice in the bottom half on a Wenger two-run homerun to trim the lead to four but Rio Grande Valley scored once in the sixth on an error while Ryan Fox hit his 19th homer of the season in the seventh for a six-run lead.
With the Dillas trailing 9-3, the bottom of the seventh inning began. Jonathan Reynoso led off with a single, Wenger and Carlos Figueroa followed with singles to load the bases. After a Danny Bravo walk brought a run home, Gary Schneidmiller singled home two runs to cut the deficit to two. Jordan Ramos singled to score Bravo while Ashton singled and Kevin Moore walked to load the bases again. Reynoso came up again and hit into a fielder's choice to score Ramos while an error scored Ashton to give the Dillas a 10-9 lead.
After the White Wings tied the game in the eighth, Amarillo came up in the ninth against Rio Grande Valley closer Bennett but couldn't score to send the game tied 10-10 into extra innings.
Rio Grande Valley scored an unearned run from a Miguel Peguero RBI single to take a one-run lead. Amarillo came up against Bennett again in the tenth, down by a run. Bravo singled with two outs, but no one would score to fall 11-10 in ten innings.
