WhiteWings Snap Eight-Game Losing Streak

HARLINGEN - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings broke an eight-game losing streak with an 8-1 victory over the Laredo Broncos Monday at Harlingen Field.

The WhiteWings (15-20) got on the board against Eric Eden (1-2) in the bottom of the second. With one out, Welinson Baez walked and stole second. Arlon Quiroz singled to move Baez to third and Eric Gonzalez hit an RBI-single. One out later, Roberto Rodriguez and Javis Diaz hit back-to-back RBI-singles to make it 3-0.

Salvador Paniagua led off the fifth with a walk and Baez reached on a fielder's choice. Quiroz reached on a fielder's choice error, Gonzalez hit an RBI-single and Joel Roa hit into an RBI-fielder's choice to make it 5-0.

The Broncos (15-22) got their only run against Andres Rosales (2-2) in the top of the sixth when David Fowler was hit by a pitch, moved to third on a wild pick-off throw and scored on a groundout by D.J. Dixon.

Rosales scattered five hits and two walks while striking out four.

The WhiteWings added three runs in the sxith on an RBI-double by Paniagua and a two-run single by Quiroz.

Freddy Ballestas and Anderson Garcia combined to pitch three scoreless innings to finish the game.

The WhiteWings welcome the Amarillo Dillas to Harlingen Field for game one of a four game series on at 7:05 p.m. on Twofer Tuesday, presented by RC Cola. Fans will be able to purchase two tickets, hot dogs, chips and/or sodas for the price of one. Fans will also be able to purchase beer at half price. Gates open at 6:05. Right-hander Miguel Matos (2-0) is expected to pitch for the WhiteWings.
