San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, TX - The San Angelo Colts got a huge pick-me-up from their own pitching coach Monday night at Foster Field as starter Bryan Heaston tossed seven innings of five-hit ball in leading the Colts to a 4-2 win over first-place Edinburg.

The scoring started in the bottom of the third on an hustling RBI infield single by second baseman Mark Ramos to give the Colts a 1-0 lead. However, the Roadrunners came right back in the fourth on a two-out RBI triple by centerfielder Vincent Blue to tie the game at one apiece.

San Angelo would retake the lead in the sixth on a sac-fly by right-fielder Adam Hale that was set up by a misplayed fly ball, which resulted in a triple by third baseman Jason Crosland to lead off the inning.

But back came the Roadrunners in the seventh to knot things up again. With a runner at third and one out, Heaston misplayed a comebacker, which allowed right-fielder Ambriox Concepcion to score.

However, centerfielder Ronnie Gaines put the Colts ahead for good in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run double to give San Angelo the final 4-2 margin.

In addition to Gaines' heroics, Ramos went 2-4 with an RBI and run, while Crosland went 2-4 with a double, triple and a run scored. Shortstop Butch Ballez chipped in by going 2-3 with a double and a run scored as the Colts pounded out 10 hits. Centerfielder Vincent Blue led the way for Edinburg by going 2-4 with a triple and an RBI. Concepcion went 3-4 with three doubles and two runs scored for the Roadrunners as well.

Heaston (1-0) winds up with the win by going seven innings and allowing five hits , two earned runs, no walks and a strikeout. Reliever Aaron Guerra (2-1) suffered the loss for Edinburg by giving up two runs in two innings of work. Mike Hacker (7) nailed down the save for San Angelo by pitching a scoreless ninth and striking out two.

The Colts and Roadrunners will go at it in game two of their four-game series Tuesday night beginning at 7:05. Alex Morales (0-1, 12.54 ERA) will toe the rubber for San Angelo against Tim Haines (4-1, 2.64 ERA) of Edinburg. Tuesday is also Two For Tuesday as tickets and select concessions will be on sale for $2 courtesy of Budweiser and MDX 106.1 FM.
