Amarillo Dillas News Release
AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas looked in control of the game on Monday night against the Coastal Bend Thunder, but a five-run ninth inning derailed the potential sweep as the Thunder won 7-5 in front of 1,946 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.
Dillas closer Ramon Geronimo (3-1) got the loss, blowing his first save as he allowed five runs in the ninth inning. Thunder reliever Chad Lundhal (2-2) got the win, retiring the two Dillas he faced in the eighth inning, allowed a run, but finished off Amarillo in the ninth.
Amarillo would get on the board in the second as Stephen Douglas singled, went to third on two pass balls and scored on an Alberto Cruz RBI single. They would add another run in the third as Jermel Lomack singled, stole second, went to third on an Adam De La Garza groundout and scored on a Joaquin Rodriguez RBI single for a 2-0 Dillas lead.
Coastal Bend got a run back in the fourth as Brian Nichols hit a two-out solo homerun, but the Dillas would continue to score. In the fifth, Lomack singled, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Rodriguez RBI triple for a 3-1 lead.
Amarillo would score again in the sixth off Trevino as Daryl Jones led off with a single, went to second on a walk, went to third on a fielder's choice and scored on a Brian Bueno RBI single. The Thunder responded with the run in the eighth off Jessup as Ron Fenwick walked, went to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a Levy Ventura RBI single for a 4-2 score.
Dillas reliever Tyler Pearson struck out the last batter in the eighth but Geronimo allowed a pinch-hit RBI double by Mike Goss and a game-tying RBI double from Mike Lewis to tie the game in the ninth, while Albert Gonzales hit a two-run triple and Fenwick hit an RBI single for a 7-4 Thunder lead.
In the ninth, Lomack led off with a single, stole second and scored on two wild pitches. Joaquin Rodriguez followed with his third triple of the game, but he was stranded there as a pair of strikeouts ended the game 7-5 in favor of the Thunder.
With the loss, the Dillas fall to 22-15 while the Thunder improve to 12-24. Tuesday, Amarillo will travel to Harlingen to take on Rio Grande Valley for the opening game of a four-game set at 7:05pm on AudioSportsOnline via www.whitewingsbaseball.com.
