Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release
Harlingen - United League Baseball's Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings announced today that they have signed right-handed pitcher Anderson Garcia (6-3, 220), who pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2007.
The WhiteWings have also traded right-handed pitcher Juan Peralta (6-0, 190) to the Laredo Broncos for a player to be named later.
Garcia pitched in one game for the Phillies, allowing one run on two hits in two-thirds of an inning.
Garcia was signed an amateur free agent by the New York Yankees on April 25, 2001 and pitched in their system before getting traded to the New York Mets along with Jason Anderson and Ryan Bicondoa for Armando Benitz on July 16, 2003. He reached AAA Norfolk with the Mets in 2006, before getting waived and then claimed by the Baltimore Orioles, where he pitched at both AA Bowie and AAA Ottawa. The Phillies claimed Garcia off of waivers on January 5, 2007. He pitched at both AA Reading and AAA Ottawa (which switched affiliations from the Orioles to the Phillies that season) along with reaching the Major Leagues. Garcia split 2008 between High Desert (California League, Class A Advanced) and West Tennessee (Southern League, Class AA) in the Seattle Mariners system.
During an eight-year minor league career, Garcia is 28-33 with 22 saves and an ERA of 4.18. In 218 games (42 starts), Garcia has pitched 491.1 innings, allowing 481 hits and 195 walks while striking out 383.
Peralta had an ERA of 11.12 after allowing seven runs in five and two-thirds innings over the course of two games.
