Offense Powers Roadrunners Past Colts

EDINBURG, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners, led by home runs from Carlos Hereaud and Alexis Hernandez, defeated the San Angelo Colts 7-2 Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Tim Haines (2-0) picked up the win after pitching six innings and allowing two runs on six hits.

Wilson Batista put Edinburg (8-3) on the board in the bottom of the first with an RBI double that allowed Wilmer Pino to score from third making it a 1-0 game.

The Colts (5-6) tied it in the second on an RBI ground out by John Wagle that allowed Trey Carter to score making it 1-1.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Hereaud hit the solo home run off of Colts starter Ezequiel Astacio (1-2) that extended the Roadrunners lead 2-1.

With bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the fifth, Batista hit a sacrifice fly to center field that allowed Adam Matos to score making it a 3-1 Roadrunners advantage.

San Angelo got a run back in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Joshua Collazo cutting Edinburg's lead 3-2.

Hernandez' home run scored two in the bottom of the sixth to make it 5-2 Edinburg.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, RBI singles by Hereaud and Osiel Flores extended the Roadrunners lead to 7-2.

Aaron Guerra, Ray Silva, and Robbie Nelson combined for three scoreless innings of relief giving Edinburg the 7-2 victory.

The Roadrunners and Colts will play the second game of the four-game series Monday night at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Mark DiBernardo (1-0) is expected to face Brian Henschel (1-0) with the first scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
