Amarillo Dillas News Release

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas trailed the Laredo Broncos 4-0 in the fifth inning, but scored nine unanswered runs in the fifth and sixth for a 9-4 comeback victory on Sunday night in front of 3,438 at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.

Dillas starter Ronald Lowe (2-0) got the win as he went six strong and allowed four runs and six hits, while striking out six. Broncos starter Santo Hernandez (1-1) got the loss, allowing seven runs in an out short of six innings. Dillas shortstop Joaquin Rodriguez went 2-5 with two RBI, a run scored and eight defensive assists in the effort.

The Broncos broke through in the fourth inning as three straight singles loaded the bases, while a Bradley Goldsmith triple cleared the bases. An RBI groundout would bring home Goldsmith for a 4-0 Laredo lead.

Amarillo would respond in the fifth as TJ Warren singled, followed by a hit-and-run single by Cory Wine to put runners on the corners. Jermel Lomack stepped in and hit a bunt single, but the attempted throw went into right field to bring home Warren. Lomack would steal second and go to third on an error which would score Wine. Lomack came across on an RBI single from Rodriguez and brought the Dillas within a run at 4-3.

Laredo would threaten in the sixth with a leadoff triple by Goldsmith, but Lowe struck out Jake Wells, got Gabe Memmert to foul out and struck out Jason Diaz to end the inning without runs scoring.

That opened the door for Amarillo in the sixth. Stephen Douglas walked, stole second and third and scored on a Warren RBI double. After Lomack walked, Adam De La Garza drove both runners in with a triple to give the Dillas their first lead. Rodriguez singled to score De La Garza and Alberto Cruz singled to score Rodriguez. Douglas' second at-bat of the inning scored Carlos Figueroa with an RBI single for a 9-4 Amarillo lead.

Dillas relievers Zachary Cole and Chris Ingoglia shut down the Broncos for the last three innings to preserve the comeback victory.

With the win, the Dillas improve to 6-5, while the Broncos fall to 3-8.
