HARLINGEN - After surrendering the lead in the fifth inning, the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings scored 11 runs over the final three innings to come from behind to beat the Edinburg Roadrunners 14-7 on Thursday at Harlingen Field.
The WhiteWings (18-16) are now 9-2 against the Roadrunners (15-19) this season.
Andy Wells held the Roadrunners to two hits through the first four innings as the WhiteWings enjoyed a 3-0 lead. After Wells issued a pair of walks to start the fifth, however, C.J. Beatty hit a two-run triple, Robert Matlock reached on an error and Gabe Memmert hit an RBI-double to knock out Wells. Julio Santana (1-3) came in and allowed both inherited runners plus one of his own to score to make it 6-3.
Santana settled down to strike out six in three innings of work, giving the WhiteWings time to rally in the sixth. A pair of two outs walks set-up a two-run single by Brandon Decker, knocking out Scott Wingo. Blake Parry (1-2) came in and allowed a single to Francisco Santana followed by a two-run double by Jonathan Fernandez to make it 7-6 WhiteWings.
Eric Gonzalez hit a two-run single in the seventh to give the WhiteWings a 9-6 lead.
The Roadrunners scored one run against Danny Rondon in the eighth, but the WhiteWings added five runs in the bottom of the inning and Edgar Martinez recorded the final four outs for his 11th save.
