Harlingen - United League Baseball's Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings announced today that they have signed right-handed pitcher David Cross.
He takes the roster spot of relief pitcher Ryan Dixon, who was released yesterday.
Cross split last season between Florence (Frontier League) and Wichita (American Association). 85% of his innings came with Wichita, where he recorded a 5.21 ERA in seven games (two starts). In 19 innings, he allowed 18 hits and 17 walks while striking out 13.
Cross pitched at Virginia Tech from 2006-through-2008. His best season was as a junior in 2007, when he was 1-2 with a 2.89 ERA. In six games (four starts), he pitched 28 innings, allowing 19 hits and 11 walks while striking out 35.
Dixon was 3-2 with one save and a 5.91 ERA in 17 relief appearances.
