Amarillo Dillas News Release
AMARILLO, TX - Over the last four years, the Amarillo Dillas Baseball Club has worked side-by-side with the High Plains Food Bank in efforts to help supply food during the summer months, which tends to be the most difficult time of year to gain donations. As part of their on-going program, anyone who donates at least four non-perishable items, at a Dillas' game, receives a free General Admission ticket. In a little over sixteen months of the programs existence, fans attending games have donated thousands of pounds of much needed food for people in need throughout the Texas Panhandle.
The Amarillo Dillas Baseball Club announced this morning that they are partnering with the High Plains Food Bank in their latest venture when they go "Green" with the unveiling of the area's first "Community Garden", on Friday, August 14. The events of the ground-breaking ceremonies will mark a new era of providing fresh produce to help supplement the growing need for food supply during the summer. The High Plains Food Bank Garden is a first of its kind for the region and could not be possible without the dedication of volunteers.
Along with Amarillo National Bank, Amarillo Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Atmos Energy, Hrycyk Financial, Happy State Bank, United Supermarkets, Valero Energy, and Western National Life, the Amarillo Dillas will be present for the events this Friday. Field Manager Brady Bogart and Dillas' players will be on-hand to be a part of the caring spirit of teamwork as United Way collaborates with the High Plains Food Bank and The High Plains Institute of Applied Ecology, to kick-off this momentous event.
"From day one, area residents have supported our (Dillas) efforts by showing up at the ballpark every night", Dillas General Manager Mark Lee said. "Anytime we have an opportunity to give back to the community we need to play our part not because our mission statement says we will, but because we have the unique ability to do so and we will continue to reach out".
After consecutive rain outs, the Dillas prepare for games three and four of a four-game series against the Coastal Bend Thunder tonight, with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 6:05pm. Tuesdays are "TwoDollar Tuesdays" at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa which means fans can enjoy Club Level and General Admission tickets and select concession menu items for just $2 during both games.
