Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

HARLINGEN - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings dropped the final game of the regular season, losing 5-2 to the McAllen Thunder.

The WhiteWings trailed 4-0 after the first four innings and never recovered. McAllen starting pitcher Adrian Garza shut down the WhiteWings bats, giving up just one run in eight innings while also striking out eight batters.

The WhiteWings finish the regular season with a 51-37 record and in second place in the South Division of the North American League. The WhiteWings will be participating in the playoffs for a second straight year, as they battle the San Angelo Colts in best-of-seven series. Games one and two will take place at Harlingen Field on Monday and Tuesday night at 7:05 PM.

The Thunder raced out to an early 4-0 lead, scoring runs in each of the first four innings to take a lead they never surrendered.

Antoin Gray started the scoring by hitting his 11th homerun of the year in the first inning, giving the Thunder a 1-0 lead.

From there, the Thunder scored three more times in the next three innings to take a 4-0 lead. It was all Thunder starting pitcher Adrian Garza needed, as he did not allow a run until the bottom of the eighth inning.

RHP Alexander Concepcion (8-4, 4.76 ERA) is expected to start game one of the playoffs tomorrow night at Harlingen Field against the San Angelo Colts' RHP Chandlar Barnard (12-2, 3.25 ERA). Game time is set for 7:05 PM.
