The Game
The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings and San Angelo Colts play game one of a four-game series tonight at 7:05. Left-hander Jesus Sanchez (3-1) will face left-hander Drew Coffey (2-1). The WhiteWings The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings hit four home runs in a game for the second time this season last night. Brian Nichols hit two, Welinson Baez hit one and Justin Holloway hit one. It was the second time this season the WhiteWings have accomplished that feat, winning both contests. The WhiteWings did it four times last year, but lost three of those games.
Scouting the Colts
The San Angelo Colts are coming off of a 2-2 series split with the Laredo Broncos. The Colts completed the season series with the team with the worst record in the United League by going 9- 7 (.563). That means the Colts are 29-11 (.725) against the rest of the league. The Colts are led by triple-crown threat Jason Landreth, who is hitting .359 (2nd) with 14 home runs (1st) and 56 RBI (1st). He is also first in on- base percentage (.492) and slugging percentage (.631) while ranking fourth in extra-base hits (24) and runs scored (44).
Bryan Frichter leads the league with a .413 average and 25 stolen bases. He is second in on- base percentage (.475) and slugging percentage (.599).
There are only three pitchers in the United League with more than five wins. They all pitch for the Colts: Chandler Barnard (9), Brian Henschel (8) and Ezequiel Astacio (6). The WhiteWings will miss Henschel in this series. He leads the league in ERA (1.85). Henschel has issued just nine walks in 93 innings (0.87 walks per nine innings).
