Broncos shut down

Edinburg, TX - The Laredo Broncos got a great pitching performance by Gregorio Martinez, but it wasn't enough as they lost to the Edinburg Roadrunners by a score of 3-1 at Edinburg Baseball Stadium, on Saturday.

The Roadrunners started the scoring in the bottom of the second. Hunter Owen hit a solo home run, his third of the season. That gave Edinburg the 1-0 lead.

The score remained that way till the bottom of the fifth. Carlos Hereaud hit a rbi single that scored Robert Matlock. The score was now 2-0.

The Broncos finally got on the scoreboard in the seventh. Argelis Nunez hit a solo home run, his 11th of the season. That cut the lead in half, as the score was now 2-1.

Broncos' starter Gregorio Martinez pitched well through seven and a third innings, before he left the game with the bases loaded. Jason Herman came in to try to get out of the jam. Vincent Blue hit a sacrifice fly that scored Robert Matlock. That gave Edinburg a two run lead heading to the ninth.

Martinez deserved a better fate then he was given. He gave up three runs, on eight hits, walked four, and struck out four.

Tim Haines came out to start the ninth looking for the complete game. He held Laredo scoreless, as the Broncos dropped the game by a score of 3-1.

The Broncos scored 1 run on 4 hits and had 1 error while the Roadrunners scored 3 runs on 8 hits and had 0 errors.

The Broncos are now 21-36 on the season while the Roadrunners are 30-27. The Broncos will next be in action Sunday August 9th, as they play game two of a four game series against the Edinburg Roadrunners at 6:05 in Edinburg.
