
Roadrunners win sixth straight

EDINBURG, TEXAS ---- Tim Haines pitched his second complete game of the season to help the Edinburg Roadrunners defeat the Laredo Broncos 3-1 and extending their winning streak to six games Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Hunter Owen gave Haines (6-4) and the Roadrunners an early 1-0 lead with his third home run of the season in the bottom of the second inning.
Robert Matlock hit a double with one out in the fifth inning and Carlos Hereaud drove him in with an RBI single to extend Edinburg's lead 2-0.
The Broncos (21-36) got their only run in the top of the seventh when Argelis Nunez hit his 12th home run of the season to cut the Roadrunner lead 2-1.
Edinburg (30-27) responded in the eighth when Vincent Blue hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded that allowed Matlock to touch home plate to make it 3-1 and Haines struck out two in the ninth to give the Roadrunners their sixth straight win.
Edinburg and Laredo will play the second game of this four-game series Sunday evening at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Miguel Martinez (4-4) is expected to face Luis Arroyo (2-6) with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
