WhiteWings' Five-Game Winning Streak Snapped

LAREDO - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings had a five-game winning streak snapped after a 7-2 loss to the Laredo Broncos on Wednesday at Veterans Field.

The Broncos (27-33) snap a five-game losing streak to pass the WhiteWings (25-32) for fourth place in the United League standings.

The WhiteWings scored against Matt Gibbs (4-2) in the tip of the second. With one out, Welington Dotel reached on an infield-single and stolen second. One out later, Luany Sanchez hit an RBI-single to make it 1-0.

The Broncos responded against Jose Nieto (0-1) in the bottom of the second when Carlos Arroyo hit his second home run of the season to tie the game 1-1.

Michael Murphy led off the bottom of the third with an infield-single and DJ Dixon followed with an RBI-double. After a wild pitch moved Dixon to third and Salvador Paniagua walked, Jonathan Cisneros hit a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1 Broncos.

The Broncos had runners at first and third with nobody out in the bottom of the fourth. Jason Diaz hit a one-out bunt-single to get the first run in. After a groundout advanced the runners, a passed ball scored Doug Thennis to make it 5-1.

The WhiteWings got one back in the top of the fifth. Arlon Quiroz led off with a single, stole second and third and scored on an RBI-single by Roberto Rodriguez to make it 5-2.

Murphy hit his first career home run, a two-run shot against Matt Morris, to give the Broncos a 7-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth.

The WhiteWings and Broncos complete this four-game series Thursday at 7:35 p.m. Right-hander David Cross (3-5) is expected to face right-hander Robert Roth (1-1).
