Colts Win Slugfest

Amarillo, TX---After the Colts dropped the first two games this series they really need to take game three as the Colts and Dillas played an old fashion smack down in another wild one between the two teams. The Colts would tie a season high in runs winning by a final of 20-15. It was the opposite of game one of this series when the Colts where down 12-0 early. On Wednesday night with the World Famous Chicken in the park the two teams played a game of chicken as the Colts had a world class first inning scoring eight times before the Dillas could even bat. The Colts scored two on a Jason Crosland RBI single, a Landon Camp RBI double, a David Cardona sac fly, a Butch Ballez RBI single, and the inning was capped by an Isaac Garcia (3) three-run homer to go up 8-0. The Colts added four more in the second on Landon Camp and Tyler Goodro RBI singles and a Butch Ballez double that drove in two to make it 12-0. The Dillas would get a pair in the bottom of the second on a Daryl Jones (6) homer and an RBI single by Rob Recuenco and it was 12-2. The Colt countered with a pair of their own in the top of the third on a Josh Collazo (10) two-run homer and it was 14-4 Colts.

Amarillo came back though putting up a half dozen runs in the bottom of the third inning on a pair on three-run homers one by Daryl Jones (7) his second of the game and one by Alberto Cruz (13) for the second night in a row and suddenly it was a game at 14-8. The Colts weren't even close to done on the night scoring five more times in the fifth on RBI singles by Tyler Goodro, Butch Ballez, Mark Ramos and Isaac Garcia who drove in two and it was 19-8. The Colts would add their final run in the top of the sixth on a David Cardona RBI single to make it 20-8.

Just when you thought that would do it the Colts got a scare as Amarillo added three in the bottom of the sixth on a Daryl Jones RBI single who had five RBIs on the night, an Andrew Wong sac fly, and a Stephen Douglas RBI triple that made it 20-11. The Dillas added four more in the eighth on a Stephen Douglas sac fly, an RBI single by Alberto Cruz who drove in his fourth run of the night, and an RBI single by Brian Bueno the drove in two to make it 20-15. Chace Vacek would come on in the ninth though and slam the door by retiring Amarillo in order to preserve the win.

Isaac Garcia had three hits and finished a double short of the cycle and drove in five. Jason Crosland had had four hits and drove in two. While Josh Collazo reached base an amazing six times with three walks, a homer, and two singles, drove in two, scored four, and also getting his 100th hit of the season and is now batting over .400. Mark Ramos, Landon Camp, and Butch Ballez also had three hits as the Colts pounded out 22 hits in all. Both teams combined for 35 runs and 40 hits. The 20 runs also tied a season high for San Angelo. Gorman Romero had another stellar relief appearance going four innings and improves to 5-0.

On Thursday the Colts try to get a split with Amarillo in game four the final game of this four game series. Both teams send out their aces as San Angelo sends out righty Ezequiel Astacio (5-4, 5.12) against right-hander Ryan Mitchell (5-2, 3.46 ERA) for the Dillas. It all begins with the Kemps pre-game show beginning at 6:50 with the first pitch set for 7:05 on 1260 KKSA.
