
On Chicken Night, Colts Out Power Dillas 20-15

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas were previously undefeated when the Famous San Diego Chicken came to town, but big early innings from the San Angelo Colts ended with the Dillas falling 20-15 in front of 7,725 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa on Wednesday night.
Dillas starter Ronald Lowe (5-3) got the loss, allowing 12 runs in less than two innings. Colts reliever Gorman Romero (5-0) got the win, coming in for four innings of relief for starter Bryan Heaston. Dillas first baseman Daryl Jones went 4-6 with two homeruns and five RBI in the effort.
San Angelo exploded with eight runs in the first innings off four hits and a Dillas error,. They added four more in the second, two via a Butch Baez double for a 12-0 Colts lead in the second.
Jones led off the second inning with a solo homerun for the first Dillas runs, while Stephen Douglas singled, went to second on a pass ball and scored on a Rob Recuenco RBI single for a 12-2 score.
The Colts Josh Collazo hit a two-run homer in the third inning to extend the lead to twelve, but Amarillo's offense exploded in the third. Joaquin Rodriguez singled, Carlos Figueroa walked and Jones hit his second homerun of the game to score three runs. Andrew Wong followed with a single, Douglas walked and Alberto Cruz hit his fourth homerun in four games to score three for a 14-8 deficit.
San Angelo wouldn't stop scoring as they scored five in the fifth and one in the sixth for another twelve run lead. The Dillas kept scoring in the sixth as Rodriguez and Figueroa both hit one-out singles, while Jones singled to score Rodriguez and Wong hit a sacrifice fly to score Figueroa. Douglas followed with a two-out triple to score Jones for a 20-11 score.
Amarillo continued to try to come back as in the eighth inning, Figueroa led off with a double, Jones singled and Wong walked to load the bases. Douglas hit a sacrifice fly to score Figueroa while Cruz singled to score Jones. Recuenco followed with a walk while Brian Bueno hit a two-RBI single for a 20-15 deficit.
The Dillas couldn't score in the ninth to fall to the Colts by the score of 20-15.
With the loss, the Dillas fall to 35-24 while the Colts improve to 31-28. Thursday, Amarillo will take on San Angelo for the final game of a four-game set at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm on AudioSportsOnline via www.myamarillodillas.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
