August 25, 2012 - North American League (NAmL)
Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release
SAN ANGELO- Cory Patton hit a grand slam as six San Angelo batters collected multiple hit games to lead the Colts to a 14-6 victory against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings Saturday night in front of 4,945 fans at Foster Field.
Patton's home run over the 20-foot wall in deep left center off Cole Stephens (6-6) gave the Colts a 4-2 lead they never relinquished. Patton, who would also hit his 26th double to tie Edinburg's Joe Weik for the North American Baseball League lead in that category, would drive in five runs in the game to give him 66 on the season, surpassing Weik with that total was well.
Brian Henschel (6-8) scattered six hits and allowed four earned runs through six innings of work for San Angelo (45-41), who have won five straight games and handed Rio Grande Valley (48-38) their sixth straight setback in San Angelo. The WhiteWings dropped to third place in the United League with the loss.
The Colts will try to sweep the four game series tomorrow at 6:05 p.m. behind Mike Hart (6-3), while the WhiteWings will counter with former staff ace Reymond Cruz (0-1).
