SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - Maui Na Koa Ikaika starter Jesse Smith pitched 8 2/3 innings, and kept the San Rafael Pacifics off the board in a 3-0 win in Game 2 of the North American League's North Division Championship Series at Albert Park on Saturday.
Smith struck out seven and allowed just five hits earning his 10th win of the season. Smith departed with two outs in the ninth due to an apparent leg cramp. Smith (10-2) lowered his league-best ERA to 1.33, and brought Maui (36-29) even in the best of three series.
D.J. Dixon had two hits, including a two-out double in the ninth off Smith. Zack Pace had two hits, and Johnny Woodard singled.
Pacifics starter Tyler Pearson lost for the first time this season, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits, fanned six and walked two while. Pearson had won his last four starts for the Pacifics (33-26), dating back to July 21.
On Sunday San Rafael sends Jesse Garcia (0-2) to the mound, as the Pacifics play their season finale, and the NAL crown.
