Edinburg Roadrunners News Release

EDINBURG, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners saw their four-game win streak stopped by the McAllen Thunder 3-1 Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium behind the right arm of Alexei Perez.

Perez (5-5) allowed an unearned run in eight innings pitched with six strike outs as he out dueled Edinburg starter Matison Smith, who allowed three runs but just one earned.

The Thunder (31-56) scored all their runs in the top of the fourth. Miguel Alfonzo started the two-out rally with a single to center and then came around to score on an RBI double by Henry Gonzalez. A fielding error then allowed Gonzalez to score from second. Davis Page then capped the inning with an RBI single that drove in Cristobal Santana for the 3-0 lead.

The Roadrunners (53-34) got their lone run in the bottom of the sixth. Joe Weik led off the inning with a single and then moved to second on a throwing error. After moving to third on a ground ball, Weik came in to score on an RBI sacrifice fly by Felix Molina that made it 3-1.

That would be all the scoring for both teams as Chad Robinson pitched a scoreless ninth for his 14th save of the season giving McAllen the 3-1 victory.

Smith (7-6) took the tough loss as he pitched eight innings and striking out seven.

The Roadrunners and Thunder will play the final game of their four-game series Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Julio Castro (3-1) is expected Alex Smith (3-3) with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
