Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

HARLINGEN - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings scored six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to put away the San Angelo Colts, winning 13-3 and taking a 2-0 series lead.

Holding a 7-3 lead in the top of the eighth inning, the Colts loaded the bases to put the tying run at the plate. However, they did not convert as they stranded all three base runners and failed to score any runs.

The WhiteWings then came to the plate in the next half inning and put the game away, scoring six runs to give them a big 13-3 lead and suddenly turning the game into blowout.

The WhiteWings never trailed the Colts, racing out to an early 3-0 lead as Wilmer Pino and Leivi Ventura brought home two runs in the first. An RBI single Eric Gonzalez in the second inning gave the WhiteWings a three run advantage.

The Colts responded in the third inning when Daryl Jones hit a two-RBI single to cut the WhiteWings' lead to one at 3-2, but that's as close as the Colts ever got. In the next six innings, the WhiteWings outscored the Colts 10-1.

Eric Blackwell received the win for the WhiteWings while Adam Kramer recorded the loss.

The series shifts to San Angelo for game three, scheduled for Thursday night at 7:05 PM. David Cross (4-5, 7.90 ERA) is expected to take the mound against Logan Williamson (11-2, 4.99 ERA).
