San Angelo Colts News Release

Harlingen, Texas --- On Monday night the Colts returned to the playoffs for the first time since 2009. It turned out to be a pitching duel between the Colts Chandler Barnard who led the league in wins against player/coach Alexander Concepcion. In another close one between the Colts and the WhiteWings, San Angelo would lose a see-saw battle in game one of the North American League playoffs 4-3.

The first two innings were scoreless, but it was the WhiteWings who would take the first lead of the game on solo homerun by Gabriel Ortiz (1), for a 1-0 lead. It stayed that way until the sixth as both teams exchange runs when Brian Nichols (1) tied the game for San Angelo with a solo shot and Wilmer Pino (1) put the Wings ahead again 2-1 Rio after six.

The WhiteWings then scored two in the following inning on a wild pitch and a RBI single by Eric Gonzalez and it was a 4-1 lead for Rio after seven. The Colt battled back though, getting two of their own on a Cory Patton bomb that cleared the scoreboard to bring the Colts to within one at 4-3. That would be as close as they would get though and lose by that final. Barnard (0-1) went six and two-thirds, allowing six hits and four runs in the loss. Alexander Concepcion went seven and a third, allowing eight hits and three runs and Edgar Martinez (1) who led the league in saves closed it out for the WhiteWings.

In game two of this best of seven North American League Playoffs series the Colts send out right-hander Adam Kramer (4-3, 6.86) against this year's ERA leader righty Eric Blackwell (8-3, 3.01) for the WhiteWings. Game two begins with the pre-game show at 6:45 p.m. and the first pitch at 7:05 p.m. Listen to all the action on Tuesday on 101.9 "The Fire".
